A new schools song for Holocaust Memorial Day 2024

On Sunday I conducted a mass choir of 80 school children in two performances of my song ‘The Fragility of Freedom’, commissioned by The Representative Council of North East Jewry. The performance took place in Newcastle City Library as part of the memorial service marking Holocaust Memorial Day 2024 and involved four local schools (Gosforth East Middle, Dame Allen’s, Newcastle School for Boys and Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham). Thanks to all the schools involved for working so hard to make it sound just as I’d hoped! Thanks also to Music Partnership North for co-ordinating, in particular to Gareth Miller who also allowed me to wave my arms in the air by kindly playing the piano accompaniment!

Gospel Round aired on BBC Introducing show!

Last night my ‘Gospel Round‘ performed by Dark Sky Voices was aired on BBC Radio Newcastle! It was part of the BBC Introducing programme presented by Nick Roberts which devotes 2 hours of time to original music by North East songwriters.  I am particularly pleased to have a live recording aired for the first time rather than my own studio recordings. This track was just one of several songs recorded at Simpson Studios by Ian Stephenson. You can listen again for a month here at 1.39.

Sixpence on May Day Classical Mixtape on BBC Radio 3!

It’s May Day and I’m absolutely chuffed to bit to have my recording of ‘Sing a Song of Sixpence’ included in tonight’s ‘Classical Mixtape’ on BBAC Radio 3! It was first up in a specially selected choice of BBC Introducing recordings by Helen Garrison Producer at Radio 3. Thank you for that!
